Who we are
HomeGridHQ (homegridhq.com) is an independent website about home backup power. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean HomeGridHQ. Questions go to hello@homegridhq.com.
What we collect
We don't ask you for anything. There's nothing to register for and no newsletter form. The sizing calculator and planner run in your browser, and the appliances and numbers you enter aren't sent to us or saved on a server.
Information is collected automatically in three ways:
- Analytics. Google Analytics 4 records things like the pages you view, how you got here (a search engine, a link), your approximate location (city or region, derived from your IP address), device and browser type, and on-site actions such as clicking a retailer link or sorting a comparison table. We use this to see what's useful and what isn't. We don't use it to identify you by name.
- Hosting logs. Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (IP address, requested page, browser user agent, time) for security and to keep the site running.
- Affiliate tracking. When you click a retailer link, the affiliate network and the retailer record that click so the purchase can be credited to us. Impact's tracking script also loads on every page.
If you email us, we get your email address and whatever you write. We use it to reply and don't add you to any list.
Cookies
Cookies are small files your browser stores. HomeGridHQ itself doesn't set any login or preference cookies. Third parties do:
- Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named
_gaand_ga_*) to tell visits apart and measure return visits. - Affiliate networks and retailers set cookies when you click an outbound link, and sometimes when the page loads, to attribute purchases. How long those cookies last depends on the program, from about a day to a few weeks.
Third parties we work with
| Company | What it does here | Its privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Google Analytics 4) | Site analytics | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Vercel | Website hosting and server logs | vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| Amazon Associates | Affiliate tracking for Amazon links | Amazon Privacy Notice |
| CJ Affiliate | Affiliate tracking for some manufacturer links | cj.com/legal/privacy |
| Awin | Affiliate tracking for some manufacturer links | awin.com/us/privacy |
| Impact | Affiliate tracking script (loads sitewide) | impact.com/privacy-policy |
| Google Fonts | Serves the site's typefaces (your browser requests them from Google) | policies.google.com/privacy |
Once you land on a retailer's site, their privacy policy applies, not ours.
Your choices
- Opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking third-party cookies stops most affiliate tracking. The site still works fine without cookies.
- Global Privacy Control. We don't yet run a consent tool that reads GPC signals automatically. If you use GPC, also block third-party cookies in your browser, or email us and we'll handle your opt-out by hand.
- Ad personalization. We don't run ads on this site. To limit how Google uses data across sites generally, see My Ad Center.
Your rights under US state privacy laws
Residents of California and several other states (including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon and others with similar laws) have rights over their personal information. Depending on where you live, you can ask to know what we've collected, get a copy, correct it, or delete it, and you can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information or its use for targeted advertising.
Here's our honest position:
- We don't sell personal information for money, and we don't run ads.
- Google Analytics and affiliate network cookies do let those companies collect data about your visit. Some state laws can treat that kind of third-party cookie activity as "sharing" or "selling," even when no money changes hands for the data. If you want to opt out, use the browser controls above, or email us and we'll tell you exactly what we can and can't control.
- We hold very little that's tied to you. In practice, the only personal information we can look up and delete on request is an email you sent us. Analytics and affiliate data sit with those providers, and we'll point you to their deletion tools.
To make a request, email hello@homegridhq.com with "Privacy request" in the subject. We'll respond within the time your state's law requires (45 days in California). We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
HomeGridHQ is written for adult homeowners and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has emailed us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Data retention and security
Detailed Google Analytics event data is kept for the retention period set in our account (Google offers 2 or 14 months), then deleted by Google. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle the conversation. The site is served over HTTPS.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we collect or use data, we'll update this page and the effective date at the top. Material changes will be noted here.
